Events bring people together, united under one common cause and roof. Often overlooked in the rush to bring the event together, professional photography documents your event. Event photography provides high-quality content for social media, marketing materials, and promotional information. In order to maximise event photography, we have compiled our top suggestions on how to make your event one to remember, after all, once the event is over all that is left are the photos!

Context

What and why is the event being held? Is it a festive do? Will the images be used on a company’s website to showcase company culture? A birthday? If so remember to capture key loved ones and those relaxed celebratory moments.

Preparation is key

Understanding your client’s expectations is pivotal to providing them with the best service possible. What photography style would they like? Any VIP’s you should capture? Create a shot list to ensure that you capture all key moments

Know your surroundings

The location of the event dictates the framing of photography. If possible, scout out the location beforehand – check the lighting, the optimal places for posed shots, and understand if there are any limitations/things to keep in mind when you come to shoot there.

Go with the flow

All photographers know that the best shots tend to be the unplanned ones. Be aware of what’s going on around you so that you can capture those memorable moments

Be quick

Moments are fleeting and it’s your job to capture people at their best so shoot as many shots as possible and filter the best ones later.
